Heya!

I’m 星見紅楓 (Hoshimi557), a pseudonymous writer based somewhere in Canada.

I write about politics, economics, technology, transportation, and whatever else crosses my mind. This is 隨筆 — spontaneous writing. Some posts are polished, some are not.

Background

I speak Mandarin Chinese, English, and a little bit of Cantonese. You can guess my ethnicity. You will probably get it right.

My educational and cultural background is a mix of East and West. I graduated from a prestigious university (I will not name which) in Canada, in Mathematics and Computer Science. However, I probably read too much Philosophy and Politics to be happy, and not enough to claim expertise on anything. Standing at the intersection of cultures and disciplines feels weird sometimes.

Currently my fields of interest include mainly Machine Learning, Computer Music, and Software Engineering.

Hobbies

Anime & Manga:

CGDCT, Music, Drama, etc. Hibike! Euphonium and Revue Starlight fan.

Music:

I play the Alto Saxophone at an intermediate level. Too much time invested to back out and not good enough for myself. In general, I love concert band music, classical music, and some anime music.

History & Politics:

I am decently well-versed in modern history. I could probably tell you on the spot something about Warlord Era of China or the SPD.

Chess:

Decent, not good.

Board Games & Strategy Games

A fan. I’m always down to play more. Spent way too much time on Paradox Interactive Games.
